I’m a problem solver. When someone mentions that something isn’t working, I immediately start trying to fix it.

That tendency served me well in a lot of ways. I earned promotions. I fixed a lot of problems. People came to me with all kinds of problems, so I was in the middle of a lot of important things.

It felt good. It felt important. It felt powerful.

Until it exhausted me.

Many people get promoted because of this same ability. The ability to see a problem, find the right answer, and get the solution implemented.

The promotion comes with a lot more responsibility and very little training. Yesterday you were a superstar. Today you have no idea what you are doing. You need time to learn, but your new team can’t seem to do anything without you.

Why can’t my employees solve their own problems!?!

The Underlying Cause
