Sounds like you are trying all the best things to learn. It is definitely more difficult for the manager to operate in a less hands-on environment.

If you find a lot of details being misunderstood, perhaps a different kind of initial walkthrough would help. Be sure to be thinking ahead to where the most likely spots are that will be confusing and add more examples to clarify in advance.

You also have to be flexible for the individuals you manage. One person going heads down for several days will be fine, but a less skilled or competent employee may need multiple checkins throughout the day.

Another skill we don’t talk about often enough is the ambiguity issue. If your directives aren’t clear, people need to understand how to ask more questions and challenge those directives until they are clear. It’s often tricky to do and needs a lot of management support.
